A Law Society in former Commonwealth jurisdictions is an association of solicitors, which has a regulatory role to supervise the training and qualifications of lawyers/solicitors. Where is a distinction between barristers and solicitors, solicitors are regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and barristers by a separate bar council. The society law represents solicitors and promotes their interests. Law is rooted in socio-economic network and social institutions. These social factors influence the direction of legal change. This is the outcome of social and personal interactions which are variable and often unpredictable. At the same time, law may itself change social norms in different ways.
